(Spencer)– A high speed pursuit early Sunday that started in Spencer and ended in Sioux Rapids landed two men in jail on multiple charges.
Spencer police say it started around 2:30 am when officers were called to 911 1st Avenue East to investigate a disturbance. Upon arriving they saw a black 2007 Chevrolet Malibu that was attempting to flee the scene. Officers tried to stop the vehicle in the 900 block of Grand Avenue but the driver refused to stop, leading police on a pursuit that went south out of Spencer at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The pursuit continued until the vehicle came to a stop in the 300 block of Main Street in Sioux Rapids. The driver got out of the vehicle and took off. The suspect was apprehended a short time later at 307 Main Street in Sioux Rapids following a brief pursuit on foot.
25-year-old Carlos Hicks of Spencer was charged with eluding while participating in a felony, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver marijuana and multiple traffic offenses.
Upon further investigation officers discovered Hicks threw a loaded pistol from the vehicle during the pursuit. It was found in the 2300 mile of 440th street by officers.
As part of the ongoing investigation, 25-year-old Deshon Oneal of Columbus, Mississippi was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were booked into the Clay county jail.
