(Okoboji)– Final preparations are being made for this weekend’s professional snowmobile race in the Iowa Great Lakes. A Spencer man, Mitch Sebastian, and his father played a significant role in making the Cor Power Sports Okoboji 100 possible…
“Todd, the owner of the series, has been, you know, looking for alternative places to race and through a conversation he reached out to my dad and had said you boys mentioned you live by some lakes. Can we come check them out? And of course, absolutely, my dad invited him down and they met together with the Dickinson county local snowmobile club, the DNR, whoever else had to be involved, and everything checked out. Todd liked what he saw. The Dickinson County Snowhawks have done a tremendous job in organizing, putting everything together to get them to come down and everything’s coming together and it will hopefully be a good event.”
Sebastian goes on to explain what spectators can expect to see this weekend along the 10 mile course on East Lake Okoboji…
“They’ll plow the track so it will be, you know, full blown right down to the ice, ice racing, and there’s going to be the pro riders from all the manufacturers: Arctic Cat, Ski Doo, they’ll have their semis, you know, coming into town and it will be, you know, some of the best cross country riders in the country. They can come on down and they’ll have everything, you know, roped off to keep people off the course, obviously, but you can, you know, walk around the lake and find a particular spot where you want to sit and watch. And yeah, like you said, there will be classes for everybody all the way down to your, you know, junior riders all the way up to the, you know, to pro guys, so.”
The races will be headquartered at Parks Marina, which will also serve as the start and finish line. Participants will be vying for thousands of dollars in payouts for the various classes.
Races will be held both Saturday and Sunday with a parade lap at 8:00 am and racing beginning at 9:00 am.
