Iowa Dept. Of Public Health Reporting 107 New Cases Of COVID-19

April 22, 2020

(Johnston)– The Iowa Department of Public Health today (Wed.) is reporting an additional 107 positive cases of COVID-19 for a total of 3,748 to date. 1,428 of those cases have recovered. 272 were hospitalized as of today (Wed.) with 92 in intensive care units and 57 on ventilators. The agency says there were seven more deaths reported bringing the total number of fatalities related to the virus to 90.

During her press conference today (Wed.), Governor Kim Reynolds said she’s thrilled with the response they’ve been getting to the Test Iowa initiative which was launched Tuesday…Reynolds042201

“So at this time Test Iowa is being prioritized for those who currently have symptoms; have interacted with someone who already tested positive; or have recently visited places where COVID-19 is more widespread. So if you work in healthcare, law enforcement, manufacturing or other essential services, please complete the assessment. It is critical for all Iowans that you stay healthy and well, and this again will help us kind of understand the scope and spread of the virus and help us see if our workforce has symptoms we can get them tested and get them back on line, so we would encourage our first responders and healthcare workers and essential workers to take the test.”

Reynolds says those who don’t initially qualify for testing are urged to take the assessment again in the future…Reynolds042202

“If you don’t qualify for testing after completing the assessment the first time, that doesn’t mean you won’t qualify later. So if you develop mild symptoms or you begin feeling ill or if you become aware that someone that you’ve been in contact with has had COVID-19, then take the assessment again. So this is another way to manage your healthcare through the assessment and Test Iowa app.”

The assessment can be found at test Iowa-dot-com.

The Governor says some 80,000 Iowans have taken the assessment so far already.
