Estherville Woman Arrested After Allegedly Threatening To Burn A House Down

April 20, 2020

(Estherville)– An Estherville woman was arrested Saturday after allegedly threatening to burn a house down and injuring a police officer.

The Estherville Police Department says officers were called around 2:30 pm Saturday to 421 1/2 South 9th Street after getting a report of a person who was making threats. The suspect had left upon police arriving. The reporting party identified the person as 18-year-old Grace Hrbek of Estherville. An officer found Hrbek a short time later in the 800 block of South 12 Street. Police say Hrbek had a lighter in her hand and tried to start some grass on fire, and that she also tried to light her jacket on fire while talking to the officer.

As police tried to gain control of Hrbek, she brandished a knife she had on her person and cut one of the officer’s arms.

Hrbek was taken into custody and was transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital for an evaluation. She was later transported and booked into the Emmet county jail on charges of willful injury, assault on a peace officer and going armed with intent.

The officer was treated at Avera Holy Family Hospital and was released.
