Suspect Wanted In Jackson County Vehicle Theft Arrested In Sioux City

January 30, 2020

(Jackson, Mn.)– A man is in custody following a reported vehicle theft in Jackson county.

Shortly before 5:00 pm Wednesday, a Jackson county deputy responded to a residence in Delafield Township where a 1999 Jeep Cherokee was reported missing.

While the deputy was responding, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Sioux City Police Department that they had just responded to an incident in which a man had entered a store in that city missing a sock and a shoe, was acting strangely and was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee that was reported stolen from the Jackson county, Minnesota residence.

The Jackson county deputy was able to track the shoeprints in the snow, which started near Minnesota Highway 60 and continued through a wildlife area onto Timber Lake, then on to the property of the person who reported the burglary. About halfway through the track, the deputy found a sock and shoe left behind.

The suspect did enter the home but nothing was reported missing from inside.

Sioux City police arrested the suspect, 34-year-old Jose Ricardo Cruz Mendoza, for possession of a stolen vehicle.
