(Spirit Lake)– Forecasters say there’s an increasing likelihood of a significant blizzard impacting the region Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for all of northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.
Forecasters say that based on current models, most of the region can expect 5 to 7 inches of snow from very late Thursday night into early Saturday. In addition, they say a northwest wind will increase during the day Friday, with gusts as high as 50 mph by late Friday and into the day Saturday. That would cause significant blowing and drifting snow, which will likely be widespread, along with extremely poor visibility.
Anyone with travel plans late Thursday night through Saturday are being told to closely monitor later forecasts and be prepared to alter those plans.
