(Sanborn)– A single vehicle crash Tuesday on Highway 18 near Sanborn resulted in the arrest of a man on multiple drug charges.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says a Sanborn police officer arrived on the scene of the crash about a half mile east of Silver Avenue shortly after 9:00 am and found no one around the vehicle. The officer later found the driver at a convenience store in Sanborn. The driver told the officer a passenger had been with her, identified as 23-year-old Zachary Robert Thomas Hayes. The officer found Hayes a short time later hiding behind a business in Sanborn.
Further investigation revealed Hayes was wanted on a $20,000 cash only warrant out of Woodbury county for a parole violation. As Hayes was being arrested, authorities found he was allegedly in possession of about 180 grams of crystal meth. Hayes was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a drug tax stamp violation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hayes was booked into the O’Brien county jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond and was being held on the Woodbury county warrant.
The driver of the vehicle, Amber Lynn Dickinson of Sioux City, was charged with failure to maintain control.
