(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county fire departments will once again be vying for bragging rights as to who makes the best chili. The 3rd annual “Battle Of The Chili Pots” will be held this Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Spirit Lake fire station. Jason Simpson of the Milford Fire Department is one of the organizers of the event. He says for $5.00, you’ll be able to judge which department has the best mild chili and the best spicy recipe…
“It’s a chili tasting bowl is what we call it and you can go to each station and test the chili of each department and eat as much as you want. Then you’re given a judging bead and when you figure out which chili you like the best, then you go back to that serving station and you drop your bead in the jar and that’s how they get judged.”
Simpson says the proceeds go to each participating department…
“We split those up between all the fire departments and each department gets an equal amount back and then that department can use it for like if they need new fire gear or if they need to update anything in the station, that just helps the fire department better serve its public.”
Simpson says it also serves another purpose…
“It also gives the fire department an opportunity to invite the public in, they can see what they have for equipment, they can talk to their local firemen and get to know them a little bit better.”
Again this year’s “Battle Of The Chili Pots” will be held this Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Spirit Lake Fire Station.
