January 15, 2020

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Finance Authority today (Wed.) awarded more than $6.4 million to 27 local housing trust funds. Locally, the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund will be getting $273,539. Kristin Larsen, of the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund says the money will help preserve aging housing stock in the region…Kristin Larsen01

“Right now we do offer several different types of assistance. Primarily what we do, Steve, is owner-occupied rehabilitation. So one of the criteria to apply for the program is you must own and live in the house that’s going to be rehabilitated. We can do other projects as well, such as some rental rehabilitation. We’re looking at perhaps offering some downpayment assistance, and we’ll have a board meeting coming up here soon to discuss some other avenues.”

Larsen says eligibility is income-based…Kristin Larsen02

“That’s one of the things that we consider when we review your application. Some of the things we can help with, Steve, are basic structural repairs. We can do roofs, windows, siding issues. We can do electrical upgrades, furnace replacements, HVAC, plumbing repairs, septic tank improvements, hot water heater replacement, we do do some lead based paint reduction, some insulation, and we do offer some handicap accessibility issues.”

More information is available by calling Larsen at (712) 262-7225, extension 139.

The Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund serves Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties.
