(Spencer)– Organizers are hoping people will warm to a new event that will be held this Saturday in Spencer. Candice Daniels says the “Spencer S’mores and Blazing Pines” will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at East Leech Park…
“This event was, I love it, created by just a bunch of Spencer people that we call “Love Where You Live” and we thought we need something during the winter, so why don’t we do this?”
Daniels says there will be activities for all ages…
“And we’ll have some kid’s games, thanks to Community Insurance we have 30 ice skates that people can use on the ice skating rink and we’ll open up the warming house. We’ll have s’mores and Community Bank donated s’more sticks for that; Fareway and Hy-Vee donated s’mores items so we can actually have s’mores; Spencer Hospital donated the hot chocolate, so we’ll have hot chocolate there, so people can just play around on East Leech Park initially.”
In addition, she says you’ll also have an opportunity to dispose of your natural Christmas tree and greens…
“A little after dusk we are going to burn the pines. With the help of the Fire Department, they’ll be there, we’re going to light all those Christmas trees on fire and we do ask that, this is the first year we’ve done this, that if people do have real trees or garland or wreaths, please bring them out to West Leech Park between now and Saturday and make the pile as big as possible.”
The events are free. A food truck will also be available.
