Miss Iowa Junior Teen to compete in National American Miss Pageant in California

A Spirit Lake High School student, Miss Iowa Junior Teen Carlie Jo Ahrenstorff is traveling to California to compete in the National American Miss Competition.

Ahrenstorff says there will be several aspects to the competition.  “There’s four required categories, and so the first one is your formal wear where they’re just judging your poise and how you carry yourself on stage. The second is your personal introduction, and that is where you have 60 seconds on stage to talk a little bit about yourself and your background.  Then your interview, and that one really helps with your personal growth and your interview skills, and then the last one is your community service, and for me, it was my platform which I created which was #dnba, and that stands for do not be afraid.  So, I have the opportunity to talk to elementary and preschool classes on the topic of bravery.”

She adds that the competition has increased her self-esteem and confidence.  “The more I compete in National American Miss, the more that it’s helping my confidence and my growth in my personal communication skills and it’s really helped me grow as a person.”

The Final competition will be held December 1 in Anaheim, California.
