Poet To End Production At Its Project Liberty Plant In Emmetsburg

November 20, 2019

(Emmetsburg)– Officials with Poet DSM announced Tuesday they’ll be ending production of cellulosic ethanol at their Project Liberty plant in Emmetsburg and that 30 employees will be laid off in early 2020. The plant will have just 40 jobs left in February after the layoffs.

Company officials say E-P-A decisions have crippled the market for cellulosic ethanol, which is made from leftover corn cobs and stalks.

They say the Emmetsburg facility will transition to research and development and that the company is looking to license its technology elsewhere.
