Collision South Of Superior Sends One Person To The Hospital

(Superior)– A collision Wednesday south of Superior sent one person to the hospital.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 54-year-old Robert Phelps of Everly was driving a 2013 Ford Explorer westbound on County Road A-22 at the intersection with County Road N-14. Authorities say Phelps was attempting to turn southbound when he collided with a 2007 International semi driven by 54-year-old Roger Galbraith of Spencer, who was northbound on County Road N-14. The vehicle driven by Phelps went into the east ditch where it overturned twice, coming to rest on its wheels. The semi came to rest in the east ditch.

Phelps was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with unknown injuries. No injuries were reported to Galbraith.

Damage to the vehicle driven by Phelps was estimated at $16,000; damage to the semi driven by Galbraith was estimated at $45,000.

Phelps was cited for failure to yield.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by Superior Fire and Rescue, the Terril Fire Department, Lakes Area Extrication Unit, the Iowa State Patrol and Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.

The collision took place around 11:30 am.
