Spirit Lake—–Eight Spirit Lake Middle School band students were selected to participate in the 52nd annual Northwest Iowa Middle School Honor Bands Festival.
On Saturday, October 19, over 330 seventh and eighth grade band students from 41 Northwest Iowa schools auditioned for a position in two honor bands. Approximately 190 students were chosen. These selected students performed a concert at Buena Vista University, Saturday, November 9, at 6:00 p.m. In addition, Callie Taylor was selected from a recall audition to represent Northwest Iowa at the All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band in May, 2020 in Des Moines.
Selected from Spirit Lake Middle School are: eighth graders Sydney Hunt, flute; Zachary Fisher, alto saxophone; Callie Taylor, baritone saxophone; Charlotte Pritchard, trumpet; Owen Meerbeek, trombone; and Sage Gathercole, tuba; seventh graders Sam Hawkins, euphonium & Blake Fullmer, trumpet, were also selected.
The Spirit Lake Middle School band director is Sally Jo Ites.
