(Spirit Lake)– If you’re thinking about ordering a personalized or specialized license plate for someone as a gift this holiday season, you’ll need to act soon.
Dickinson County Treasurer Kris Rowley says that in order for the plate to arrive in time to be given as a Christmas gift, you’ll need to place the order by November 8th…
“To do that, depending upon what kind of plate you’re looking at, if it’s personalized you would need to order that through the Department of Transportation directly, and you can come to our office and we can help get you the information that you need to do that or you can just go online to their website or even easier you can go online to the Dickinson County website and click into the Treasurer’s Office, and we have links in our motor vehicle section that will take you right to the state’s website either for ordering online or printing out a piece of paper to mail. I just want to caution people if you’re going to mail it, mail it like this weekend because it has to be, it has to arrive in Ankeny in time for them, by November 8th, in time for them to get that ready for Christmas.”
Rowley says they typically see an uptick in the purchase of specialized license plates this time of the year…
“I couldn’t give you an exact number but we do see a lot of gift license plates around Christmas time. In fact I’ve done that myself for family members. It’s fun to do. And it can be anything. The blackout plates are really popular right now, it could be a blackout plate, but it might be a Hawkeye plate like what sits on my car. Or an Iowa State plate that sits on many of my employees card so it can be anything. It can be a DNR plate, so any kind of plate is a lot of fun to give and often times people have something specific they want to put on the plate to give for a gift, so that’s fun, too.”
Rowley says the plates will arrive at her office December 18th…again provided they are ordered by November 8th.
