(Okoboji)-A couple of Okoboji natives have launched a fundraising campaign to produce their sustainable brand of eyewear. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Two entrepreneurs are hoping a new campaign will launch their product into the next level.
Kristopher Kneed and Tyson Kaminska are the owners of SBOJi Sustainable Floating Facewear.
Kneed says the concept for their product was started in the Lakes Area. “We were always on a boat, we were always losing our sunglasses, and eventually we came to the realization that they’re not only very expensive when they fall in the water and you lose them, but it’s also damaging to the environment that we’re getting so much fun out of and we kind of have a need to keep Okoboji clean. So, we came up with sunglasses that are made out of sustainable materials such as wood that float in the water so you can’t lose them when they drop in the water. That’s how it started 5 years ago. We’re really focused on giving back to the environment, so we do things such as this Keep it Clean Initiative, where we have beach clean-ups that started here in Okoboji and when we moved to California, extended out there as well.”
Kaminska says they are using a Kickstarter campaign to expand their business. “We did one in 2017, and we were successfully funded. We raised about $13,500., and that went towards the manufacturing and the beach clean-up initiatives that Kris was talking about, and we just kicked off our new Kickstarter.”
