Lake Park Is First Community In Dickinson County With Pickle Ball Courts

October 08, 2019

(Lake Park)– The city of Lake Park is the first in Dickinson county with pickle ball courts.

City Administrator Marie Mathiesen tells KUOO news it’s thanks to several grants…Mathiesen01

“We applied for a grant from the Dickinson County Endowment which they gave us $10,000 to kick it off. So we kind of went from there. We did some small fundraisers and then the city decided that they would just pay the rest, and so we got the bids and got the ball rolling as to what all we were going to do. We decided that if we were going to re-do it, let’s just re-do the whole thing. So then when we were taking out basically the basketball hoops, that’s when the talk of the pickle ball got started. So it was easy for us to just add it to what we had existing, so that’s when we decided to put in, we have three pickle ball courts. Two of them are portables, the other one works on the same site as the tennis court. And then when we got done the Town and Country Boosters contacted me and they donated $10,000 to purchase all four of the hoops, the backboards, the complete thing. So it actually worked out really well.”

Mathiesen says some donated labor also went into the project…Mathiesen02

“IGL Teleconnect came out one day with all of their employees and took all of the old fence down. Denny and Nancy Puhrman had taken up all of the old tennis court flooring, so, and then Billi Niemeier who was the big one doing a lot of the fundraising on the side.”

A ribbon cutting on the new pickle ball courts in Lake Park was held this past Friday.
