(Spencer)– The Spencer Chamber of Commerce has a new Director. It was announced today (Thurs.) at the organization’s annual meeting that Sheriffa Jones has been hired to the position, succeeding Bill Campbell, who was recognized for his many years of service. Jones told KUOO news what it was that led to her interest in the position…
“It began several months ago, of course. I knew the position was going to be coming open and I had some conversations with a few people that actually ended up serving as references for me and they really thought that this would be a great position with my skill set and one that certainly would be great for the community, so I threw my name in the hat and, you know, here we are today.”
Jones says she feels she’s well-qualified to head the chamber…
“At Sacred Heart I’m currently Director of Stewardship Development so there is a lot of getting out into the community working with people, getting to know people, really developing those relationships as well, and also having an economic development background, so I’m really excited to also bring an economic development perspective as well as the relationship building into the chamber.”
Jones added she’s excited for what lies ahead for the Spencer Chamber of Commerce…
“I think one of the first things we’ll probably be working on is some strategic planning for the organization and really what does the organization look like and feel like for the next five years. So that’s definitely going to be one of the things that we’ll be working on, then several other exciting things too I’m sure will come up.”
The theme for this year’s meeting was “Ignite Spencer”.
Also, Spencer Municipal Utilities was awarded the Business of the Year Award and Spencer Hospital gave a presentation on “Building a Caring Organizational Culture” during today’s (Thurs.) celebration.
