(Rock Rapids)– A Sibley man faces charges following a pursuit and stand-off Tuesday in Lyon county.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle shortly after 4:00 pm for going 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. Authorities say the vehicle came to a stop and the driver was identified as 72-year-old Kenneth Fransen of Sibley. Fransen took off after the deputy learned he was barred from driving. Fransen allegedly led deputies on a low-speed 14 mile pursuit that ended after a tire deflation device was deployed. Authorities say a stand-off then ensued, lasting nearly an hour.
Authorities say Fransen was being held for a mental evaluation and that charges of driving while barred, interference with official acts, failure to have SR22 insurance, speeding, failure to yield to emergency vehicles and failure to have an interlock ignition device are pending.
