The National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims will be observed on Wednesday, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has more:
The National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims is recognized annually on September 25.
Julie Wester is the Director of the WISH Unit with the Family Crisis Center of Northwest Iowa. “This is a day to remember murder victims, to honor them. It’s just a time for us to think about families. There is a lot of murder and violence that happens, so this is a day just to remember those folks that passed and to remember their families and loved ones.”
She adds that she’s trying to spread the word that support is available. “Family Crisis Center has several divisions, and the WISH Unit, that stands for Western Iowa Survivors of Homicide and Other Violent Crimes, we serve 29 counties in Western Iowa, and we have a 24/7 crisis line and we have specialists that are there to help if somebody is a victim of a crime or has lost someone due to a crime.”
Help is available by calling 1.800.770.1650 or text IOWAHELP to 20121
