Inclement Weather Adversely Affected Attendance At This Year’s Clay County Fair

September 19, 2019

(Spencer)– Inclement weather resulted in a decline in attendance at this year’s Clay County Fair. Fair officials announced this (Thurs.) morning 296,998 people attended this year’s fair, down about four percent from last year’s attendance of 308,603.

Clay County Fair officials also say fairgoer spending on food, beverages, specialty concessions and carnival rides also saw a decline this year, down about 2.5 percent from 2018. They add, however, that fairgoer spending did set single-day records on Tuesday, September 10th, Friday, September 13th and Sunday, September 15th, when the weather cooperated.

Fair officials say 17,368 fairgoers attended events at the grandstand, despite the cancellation of the Foreigner concert on the opening night of the fair. The top two attended events were the final appearance of the Chuckwagon Races and Jon Pardi with special guest Jake Rose.
