Lake Park Seeing Growing Interest In Hometown Pride Program

February 12, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– Lake Park’s involvement in an initiative to encourage community involvement among it’s citizens is just getting started. Mayor Matt Carstensen says the Hometown Pride program seems to be garnering quite a bit of interest among Lake Park’s residents…

“I’m on the committee myself as Mayor and we have had numerous people step up. I guess the encouraging part of it is that number one, the number of people that have come to want to participate in this program and to help Lake Park grow, and secondly, new faces that are part of this movement so far. It’s refreshing to see new people get involved. And I think as Lake Park struggles as well as every other community, I don’t think it matters what size it is, getting people to volunteer or getting different people to volunteer to be part of an organization is, it’s tough. It’s very difficult. So when new faces show up at those meetings it’s very, very encouraging and I would say that the mood behind this movement is very positive.”

Carstensen says they’ll be holding their next meeting February 26th at 6:30 pm at the Lake Park Community Center…

“It’s going to be kind of a show and tell. Tell you what the group’s all about, show you some of the things that we plan on, some of the projects that we plan on trying to push forward with community involvement and maybe some fundraising to help push those projects along. So that would be our next opportunity to get together and learn more about Lake Park Hometown Pride on the 26th of February at 6:30 at the community building.

The Lake Park City Council last year voted to allocate funds toward the Hometown Pride Program and heard an update at their meeting Monday. Lake Park is one of nine Iowa cities participating in it.
