(Sanborn)– An arrest has been made in Monday’s robbery of a bank in Sanborn. The incident at Sanborn Savings bank took place around 1:00 pm. Bank officials reported a black male, entered the bank and handed a bank teller a note. The note said that this was a robbery and demanded cash. No weapons were displayed or referenced during the robbery. An undetermined amount of cash was taken and the subject left the scene on foot.
Responding officers were on scene at the bank within minutes of the call and a suspect was developed by bank officials’ description. A perimeter was set up by law enforcement around 201 West 5th Street in Sanborn. Announcements to the inhabitants of the residence were made by an Iowa State Patrol hostage negotiator. As a precaution, schools, banks, daycares, and additional businesses in Sanborn were advised to go into lockdown status until areas were cleared by law enforcement. At approximately 2:10 pm, Del Martinnez Evans, Jr. was taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently charged with Robbery 2nd degree, a class C felony and Theft 2nd degree, a class D felony. He was booked into the O’Brien County Jail, with a bond of $15,000.
Authorities obtained and executed a search warrant on the residence at 201 West 5th Street in Sanborn but there was no immediate word as to what, if any, items were recovered. The sheriff’s office says the investigation is still ongoing.
