(Mankato, Mn.)– The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to do some aerial mapping work this spring in south central Minnesota.
MnDOT officials say it creates a record of existing infrastructure and landscape along and adjacent to right of way, and that the work will begin in late March.
The affected locations include Highway 15 from Fairmont to the Iowa state line and Highway 71 from Interstate 90 through Jackson to the Iowa state line.
The agency says large white “X” targets will be painted on paved surfaces and plastic or fabric targets will be placed on unpaved surfaces. A survey crew will then record the coordinate position and elevation of the targets, with that information then being relayed to aerial photography company.
They add the targets are temporary and will be removed once the project is completed. Landowners are requested in the meantime not to remove or disturb the targets.
Landowners in the affected areas will be getting a letter from MnDOT with more information.
