Milford City Council Discusses DD 50 Project; Hears Update On Millstone Park

March 23, 2021

(Milford)– The Milford City Council Monday evening talked about concerns they have over proposed improvements to drainage district 50, a portion of which lies within city limits. Mayor Steve Anderson says they plan to meet with the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.), which oversees the district, to further air their concerns over the proposed plans. He says one possible option would be for the city to assume jurisdiction over the drainage district…Milford Council 032201

“At that point the city has more control over what happens. So if we can’t get three storm sewers in P Avenue down to one, which totally makes sense to me, that may be the only route that we have is to say that well if we can’t bring these three together and make common sense out of it, then maybe we need to do that, so.”

Anderson said he would like to be able to sit down face to face with county officials and the engineer on the project to work on the plans so concerns can be addressed right away, instead of doing so through letters. The Board of Supervisors did briefly discuss the matter at their meeting this (Tues.) morning but tabled any action on it. They were scheduled to approve plans and specifications for the project.

In other business, the Milford City Council heard an update from the Millstone Park Committee over eight items of concern with that project…Milford Council 032202

“The first one was the maintenance budget which we talked about the city taking the $20,000, just putting it in your budget for the maintenance. I mean everybody was okay with that. The rust on the bolts, because it’s already rusting, how we can fix that. The bushes and plants, this spring, the committee decided to wait until this spring to get Matt Loerts and Cindy Feldman together to see what kind of bushes and plants we want to plant at the park. Landscaping edges and flat rocks. Some of those are already damaged so we’re going to get those fixed. More outlets and lights for the informational booth. We’re getting bids to get more outlets and to light up. Projectors, I don’t think that’s going to happen because of the size of those projectors and how much they cost.”

It was stated the project will likely lose out on atleast a portion of grant funding with the projector being taken out. The committee is also looking into the possibility of putting a flagpole in the park.

City councilman Andy Yungbluth said he wants the city’s Parks Department to eventually assume responsibility for Millstone Park, taking it out of the hands of the committee.
