Gov. Kim Reynolds Says Additional COVID-19 Vaccine Should Be On Its Way To Iowa; Denies Allegations Of Preferential Treatment

January 27, 2021

(Des Moines)– Governor Kim Reynolds today (Wed.) said some additional COVID-19 vaccine will soon be on its way to Iowa. The Governor said she was informed of that during a conference call with governors that was held Tuesday by members of the White House COVID response team…Reynolds012701

“We did receive some positive news that the federal government will be increasing each state’s vaccine allocation by 16 percent starting with next week’s shipment. In Iowa this should equate to an additional 6,300 doses and they did say that increase amount is guaranteed for the next three weeks.”

The Governor also today (Wed.) responded to allegations her office gave preferential treatment to campaign donors in the early days of the pandemic, granting them testing for coronavirus and awarding them relief packages. Reynolds strongly denied the allegations, saying the various state agencies have metrics and documentation in place showing that was NOT the case…Reynolds012702

“There’s criteria. You qualify. To my knowledge nobody was told no. And so if you called and wanted to try to facilitate a way to get your employees tested so that you could ensure them that they were working in a safe environment, that’s what companies were doing and we were doing everything we could to help facilitate that. And I will make no apologies for doing that. None.”

The State Auditor’s Office has said it plans to launch an investigation into the allegations.
