Worthington, Mn. Now Without Theatre

November 22, 2014

(Worthington, Mn.)– The closest movie theatre for Worthington residents is now in Iowa with the closing of Northland Cinema 5 this week at the Northland Mall.

Worthington was once home to downtown theatres and a drive-in, but now it has none.

The means the closest theatre for Worthington residents is in Sibley, Iowa–about a 20-minute drive away. Or they can drive to Jackson or Windom–both about 30 miles away.

A mall spokesman says the theatre’s managers filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy and the theatre’s lease was rejected.

Cinema 5 Manager Chester Yackley told customers in an answering machine message that that theatre was closing permanently. He said he regretted the move.
