(Milford)– A woman was found dead Friday evening in a house fire southeast of Milford.
Milford firefighters were called to 2424 250th Avenue around 8:20 p.m. Upon arriving Fire Chief Brian Craig says smoke could be seen coming from the first floor of the two-story farm house. Upon entering Craig says firefighters found a fire burning in the northwest corner of a first-floor living room. The fire was extinguished, with most of the fire damage reported to the living room, with extensive smoke damage throughout the house.
Firefighters located a female in the living room who was deceased. She’s identified as 53-year-old Deborah Feldhacker. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says an autopsy will be performed to determine an exact cause of death.
The cause of the blaze, which originated in the living room, is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
Officials say damage to the house could reach 60-thousand dollars.
Sheriff Greg Baloun tells KUOO news Feldhacker was alone in the house at the time. Baloun says the blaze was discovered by her husband who was returning to the house after being gone.
The Milford Fire Department was assisted by the Fostoria Fire Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Milford Police Department, Dickinson County Ambulance and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office.
