(Arnolds Park)– This past weekend’s University of Okoboji Winter Games will likely be one for the record book. Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says a lot of people took advantage of the ideal weather for the weekend…
“I think everyone’s been anxious to do things especially when it’s been as cold as it was before winter games. We were just so lucky with amazing weather this weekend. It just really encouraged people to get out and enjoy all of the activities. We were lucky with great ice, awesome snow, and really we just could not have asked for a better weekend.”
She adds several of the events had a record number of participants…
“You know we had a record number of plungers this year at the Polar Plunge sponsored by Okoboji Motor Company. That’s always a classic event. Burning of the greens and the kite festival was just amazing this year. More kites than there ever have been and it was just a wonderful family friendly event. So we’re just so grateful for those signature events.”
Zankowski says they’re still in the process of tallying up the proceeds raised in the events put on by nonprofit organizations…
“Those numbers aren’t quite finalized yet, so we’ll be releasing that information soon, along with the winners of the different tournaments. Stay tuned on our social media and check out our website, UofOWinterGames.com for full results.”
Zankowski also thanks everyone who helped make the weekend such a huge success…
“We just really want to thank our sponsors, especially our presenting sponsor, Grapetree Medical Staffing, all of the businesses and volunteers that came together to make this event and weekend possible. Without all of the countless volunteers we wouldn’t be able to pull off such a successful weekend here in Okoboji so we just want to say a big thank you from the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber.”
And with thoughts now turning toward spring, the chamber is gearing for their next big event: Walleye Weekend.
