A May City man escaped injury Wednesday after a grain wagon came loose from the tractor he was driving in Everly. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s office, 46 year old James Campbell was southboud on Ocheyedan street in Everly pulling two wagons behind a 1998 John Deere when the rear wagon separated from it’s hitch. After coming loose, the wagon continued south until it ran into a utility pole at the intersection of West 4th and Ocheyedan streets. The impact caused the pole to break into three pieces. The utility pole then fell back into the grain wagon, causing a second utility pole with guide wires to also break off and fall down. The electrical wires then fell to the ground, causing sparks to fly. According to a release from the Clay County sheriff’s office, the incident is still being investigated, and charges are pending against Campbell. The accident occurred just after 4
o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
