U-S Census Bureau Predicts Continued Population Growth For Spirit Lake

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– With two exceptions…Spirit Lake being one of them…suburbs in Iowa’s metropolitan areas continue to account for most of the growth in the state’s incorporated areas in 2006.

That’s according to new population estimates released by the U-S Census Bureau.

Of the 40 cities with the largest population gains since the 2000 census, only Spirit Lake and Marquette are outside metropolitan areas. Other cities outside of Iowa’s metropolitan regions lost more than 20-thousand residents for a 2.2 percent decline.

According to the U-S Census Bureau, Spirit Lake’s population July 1st, 2006 was estimated at 4,722…up from 4,616 in 2005 and 4,278 in the last census in 2000.

Three of Iowa’s ten core population cities–Des Moines, Sioux City and Waterloo–have declined in population since the 2000 census.
