Two Lakes Area Fire Depts. Battle Blaze At Dickinson Co. Landfill

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Two lakes area Fire Departments spent more than two hours Wednesday evening battling a fire at the Dickinson County Landfill east of Arnolds Park.

Milford Fire Chief Brian Craig tells KUOO news firefighters were called to the scene around 8:00 p.m. and found a visible fire burning in a pile of trash that had been dumped late in the day.

Craig says access to the burning pile of debris was very difficult and they had to use pickups.

He says the Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department was called for assistance.

Craig says the fire was contained to an area less than an acre in size.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene about two and-a-half hours.

Craig says an exact cause of the fire isn’t known. He suspects something had been burning in a load that had been dumped late in the day.

Craig adds firefighters were assisted by landfill employees who operated heavy equipment to help move debris around.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on the scene.
