Traffic Stop Results In Drug, Weapons Charges Against Spencer Man

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A traffic stop has landed a Spencer man in jail on drug and weapons charges and resulted in his vehicle and some money being confiscated.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over 26-year-old Cornelio Gonzalez for speeding around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 4600 block of Grand Avenue in Spencer. Authorities learned that Gonzalez didn’t have a valid driver’s license and placed him under arrest.

A subsequent search of his person turned up some methamphetamine. A search of his vehicle turned up a large knife next to where he had been sitting.

Authorities seized Gonzalez’s 1991 Plymouth Lazer along with 161-dollars in cash.

Gonzalez was booked into the Clay county jail on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine…a class “C” felony; carrying a concealed weapon…a serious misdemeanor; failure to have a valid driver’s license; and speeding.
