The Artimus Pyle Band to Rock the Roof Garden Ballroom October 9

October 06, 2021 Steve Schwaller

Former Lynyrd Skynyrd Drummer Artimus Pyle will be bringing his band to the Roof Garden Ballroom this weekend, KUOO”s Becky Thoreson has details:

Arnolds Park Amusement Park will present The Artimus Pyle Band on Saturday, October 9 at the Roof Garden Ballroom.

Pyle says his band pays homage to the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd. “Of course you’re gonna do Sweet Home Alabama, of course you’re gonna do Free Bird and Simple Man, but every single song in the catalog is special to somebody some place. The fans know all the words to every song. It’s not just like one hit or two hits. Ronnie wrote hit albums, not just hit songs. So, I think it’s an incredible phenomenon that our band is able to do that. There’s no bad song. Ronnie Van Zant did not write a bad song. At this point, with everything that’s happened to us, everything is sentimental. Every song is special to me in some way, some more than others. I love playing Saturday Night Special, That Smell, and Free Bird is always a blast, because it’s very physical, that’s what I do, I’m the drummer. You know, I’m 73 and I’m able to play like I’m 33. It’s fun playing the songs and everybody loves it. Everywhere we play, people love the band.”

The Artimus Pyle Band will take the stage at 7:30 Saturday evening.
