(Spencer)– Testimony concluded Friday in the trial of Juan Humberto Castill-Alvarez of Mexico…the last of 10 defendants charged in the 1997 beating and shooting death of Gregory “Sky” Erickson. Erickson, who was acting as a police informant, was only 15 at the time.
Castillo-Alvarez was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit a forceable felony.
A judge heard the case last week in Clay County District Court as Castillo-Alvarez had previously waived his right to a jury trial.
Erickson was kidnapped from a Spencer apartment. He was taken to an abandoned farmhouse near Petersburg, Minnesota where he was beaten and shot to death.
Attorneys will file closing arguments in writing in upcoming days. A verdict is expected in 30 days or so.
