(Estherville)– A major telephone outage continues to affect Emmet and eastern Dickinson county late this (Fri.) afternoon.
A fiber optics cable was accidentally cut around 2:00 p.m. about four miles south of Estherville on Highway Four.
Officials with Qwest say the line was cut in atleast three places and that it will probably be late tonight (Fri.) or tomorrow (Sat.) before it’s repaired and service is restored.
Crews are on the scene and plan to work through the night if need be.
Meanwhile, in the event of an emergency, Wallingford residents should call (712) 867-4585. Residents in other Emmet county towns should call their local fire department or go there in person if they can’t get through.
The outage is also affecting eastern Dickinson county. Those in Superior should call the elevator office or go there in person; Terril residents should try to first call 911. If that doesn’t work, they can call 336-2525.
