(Spirit Lake)– A Sutherland man has pleaded guilty to burglary, willful injury and domestic abuse/assault in a plea agreement in Dickinson County District Court.
28-year-old Shane Laursen was sentenced to six months in jail on the charges, which stem from an incident in May, 2007 in Dickinson county in which he was accused of kidnapping, sexual abuse, domestic assault, burglary and willful injury.
Laursen will be allowed work release during his jail term, and will be placed on probation three years once the jail sentence is completed. The sentence will be served at the Cherokee county jail, as Laursen works in that area.
Laursen told the court he’s very remorseful for what happened and that he intends to complete his GED, go to college, and to be a good father to a two-year-old daughter he and the victim in the case share.
The judge also granted a motion to lift a no-contact order that had been in effect between Laursen and the victim.
