(Spirit Lake)– It’s official. Dickinson county is repealing a flood plain ordinance that’s been in effect since the 1993 flood.
The board of supervisors adopted an ordinance to do away with the flood plain requirements several weeks ago, but held off on publishing it to make sure there was no opposition from lending institutions. A letter was sent to the banks last week, and Zoning Administrator David Kolhaase says that while a couple wrote back, there was no opposition to the county’s plans to drop out. As a result, the supervisors voted three-to-nothing today (Tues.) to publicize the ordinance, at which time the repeal will be effective.
Many people who live in the flood plain had requested the county drop out of the program, saying it was causing them to go through additional expense and red tape anytime they wanted to remodel or build.
