Storm Lake Man Pleads Guilty To Illegally Possessing A Firearm And Ammunition

January 10, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– A Storm Lake man has pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 47-year-old Leonard Weimer entered the plea Thursday in U.S. District Court. He had previously been convicted on felony terrorism, burglary and drug charges which prohibited Weimer from legally possessing firearms or ammunition.

Evidence indicates that on April 2nd, 2021, Storm Lake police pulled over a vehicle driven by Weimer, who’s driver’s license had been barred. A subsequent investigation resulted in officers finding a small amount of methamphetamine and several rounds of ammunition in his pocket. A K-9 deployed on the vehicle resulted in police finding additional controlled substances, an uncovered 22 caliber rifle, and additional ammunition.

Weimer remains in the custody of a U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
