Spirit Lake Traffic Stop Lands Two People In Jail

(Spirit Lake)– A traffic stop Monday evening in Spirit Lake landed two people in jail.

Spirit Lake police pulled over a van in the area of 15th Street and Hill Avenue shortly after 9:00 p.m. for a traffic violation.

The driver, 41-year-old Robert Leroy Carlson of Spirit Lake, was found to be driving with a suspended license. Police say he tried unsuccessfully to switch places with a passenger in the vehicle to avoid being arrested.

Following the arrest of Carlson, an investigation and subsequent search of the vehicle turned up substances and items alleged to be methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Carlson was charged with driving while suspended, interference with official acts and permitting an unauthorized person to drive.

A passenger, 18-year-old Abby Ferguson of Spirit Lake, was charged with possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Carlson and Ferguson were booked into the Dickinson county jail.
