The Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis Club has announced the selection of their 2021 Citizens of the Years. This year’s recipients, Chuck and Elsie Wetzeler, moved to Spirit Lake in 1964. They have since been involved in many community organizations that make our community a quality place to live in.
Chuck and Elsie are members of the United Methodist Church and serve on various committees. Chuck is a member of the Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis Club, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Abu Beker Temple, Iowa Great Lakes Shrine Lodge, Spirit Lake Centennial Treasure, and Spirit Lake Park board.
Elsie was also active in the Methodist Church Women’s Circle and various church committees. In addition, Elsie was active in PEO, Order of Eastern Starr, TTT, Auxiliary for Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
While employed as administrator of Spirit Lake mainsail organization from 1978 to 1991, Elsie worked on hundreds of community projects and promotions. Some of her favorites would be welcoming new businesses and the Teacher Welcome each year.
The Wetzelers are the owners of The State Bank in Spirit Lake and Terril.
