Spirit Lake Considers Tweaking Architectural Standards

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake is thinking about tweaking a program that requires new construction or remodeling projects in certain areas of the city to meet architectural standards dictated by the city council.

Under the change, any project that is granted some relief to the requirements would not be eligible for a tax abatement program.

The council briefly discussed the proposed change earlier this week while considering plans for a business on Highway 71 south which was requesting some relief.

City Attorney Earl Maahs was directed to look into the legality of making such a change. He’ll report back at an upcoming meeting.
