Spirit Lake City Council Welcomes Two New Members; Says Farewell To Two Others

December 28, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A special session of the Spirit Lake City Council held over the noon hour today (Tues.) saw the oath of office being administered to two newly elected members. Angela Kofoot becomes the first female member of the council to serve in quite some time. She tells KUOO news she’s looking forward to getting more directly involved in city affairs…

“I’ve always been interested in politics in general. I’m on a lot of different boards so I like working with different people and I thought this was just a good extension of that.”

The oath of office was also administered to another newly elected council member, John Chappas, who had served previously on the council. He says he’s looking forward to another stint after being off the council awhile…

“We just like to be involved in the community; take care of, giving back to the community. We’ll be here to help pay the bills. I don’t think there’s any big issues going on right now in the city. We’ve got the debt down pretty good now, so I think things are rolling well.”

Today’s (Tues.) meeting was also the final one for Wes Farmer, who didn’t seek re-election after serving about five years on the council. He says there’s one thing in particular he’s proud of during his tenure…

“I think mostly just the finances and getting everything back in order with those and making the best use of the, being good stewards of the community’s tax dollars.”

Rod James also didn’t seek re-election and is stepping down as well. He was unable to be present for Tuesday’s special meeting.
