(Spencer)– The Spencer school board Monday evening spent a significant amount of time discussing a projected shortfall in next year’s budget, and possible ways of coming up with some of the revenue.
Superintendent Greg Ebeling says an Instructional Support Levy would help offset some of the shortfall, but he says it would be far from a cure-all.
Ebeling says declining enrollment is a key factor behind the revenue shortfall, along with a minimal amount of allowable growth received for each student. With a stable enrollment, Ebeling says they’d probably be looking at 400-thousand to 500-thousand dollars more in money for next year. Instead, Ebeling says they’re looking at only an additional 100-thousand dollars at the most in new money. And he says that won’t be nearly enough to meet expenses and increased costs for programs and salaries.
Ebeling says the Spencer school district will host a public meeting Monday, November 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Administrative Offices on East Seventh Street to explain the budget reduction process and discuss possible ways of increasing revenues.
