Spencer Council Awards Bids On Fire Station Project

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The Spencer city council has awarded a contract on the fire station expansion project.

During their meeting Monday, the Spencer city council adopted a resolution that awarded the contract to the low bidder, M & D Construction out of Sheldon. The council accepted the base bid of 1.636 million dollars, which included two alternates for the project. After a lengthy discussion, the council decided to add a third alternate, a women’s locker room and shower facility. That brought the base bid to 1,645,187-dollars.

To fund the additional amount, the council opted to increase the amount of general obligation bonds by roughly 50-thousand dollars to 1,450,000-dollars. The remaining cost, nearly 300-thousand dollars, will come out of the city’s Fire Reserve Fund.

Duncan says the first phase of the project, demolition of the former Amoco building, could get underway soon.

The project is slated for completion in early 2006 to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the 1931 Spencer fire.
