(Spencer)– A request to vacate and convey portions of East 11th Street and 1st Avenue East in Spencer to Spencer Hospital received final approval at Monday’s City Council meeting. It clears the way for an extensive renovation of the hospital’s Emergency Department. Spencer Hospital President and CEO Bill Bumgarner told the council they hope to break ground sometime later this year, but he says it’s dependent on several factors, including the supply chain…
“There’s always a curve ball it seems, or frequently a curve ball, on some of those types of projects, but it’s our intent to move forward in 2022 unless there’s some unforeseen circumstance. That’s why in our discussions with city representatives, from the hospital’s perspective, there’s no need to make any changes to those city streets until the cinder blocks show up and we’re ready to roll.”
On another note, last (Monday) evening’s meeting was the first for newly elected Mayor Steve Bomgaars who gave some opening remarks…
“First of all I’d like to thank the voters of Spencer for placing their trust in me last November. I really appreciate it. As a Spencer guy, born and, well I wasn’t really born here but I was raised here, raised our family here, came back, had a career here. I am really honored to be the Mayor of Spencer and I again, I thank all of the people of Spencer.”
It was also the first meeting for newly elected councilman Brian Balk…
“I’m honored to be sitting here and I pledge that I will consistently strive to challenge myself to do the work to serve you to the best of my ability and I will challenge myself to hold my level of expertise and willingness to learn that this board has created, I’ll hold myself to that same level. So I’m honored to be here and I greatly appreciate it.”
Bomgaars also expressed his gratitude to outgoing Mayor Kevin Robinson and councilman George Moriarty for their years of service to the city.
