(Fairmont, Mn.)– A cattle round-up in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa is in it’s third week now.
The 310 head of cattle, owned by Mark Lenort, ran from a pasture near East Chain, Mn. on the Fourth of July after being spooked by fireworks. 155 of the cattle were recaptured after about 24 hours of freedom. Lenort and his neighbors have been attempting to round up the remaining cattle using horses, airplanes and all-terrain-vehicles. The cows have been spotted from near Fairmont to Ledyard in Kossuth county. One was spotted this (Fri.) morning near Swea City. Lenort says the instant they hear a noise, the cattle go back into corn fields. He’s hoping they’ll eventually be able to woo them into soybean fields where they’ll be easier to control and round-up.
