S’Mores & Blazing Pines To Be Held This Saturday, Jan. 8th, In Spencer

January 04, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– What’s becoming a winter tradition in Spencer is back for its third year. S’Mores and Blazing Pines will be held this Saturday, January 8th from 3:00 until 5:30 pm at East and West Leech Park in Spencer. Jared Elbert, head of the city of Spencer’s Parks and Recreation Department, says ice skating and snowshoeing will once again be available this year. He says in the event you don’t have your own ice skates, they’ll have some available, adding the city’s ice rink is now open for the season…

“We were able to get a 5210 grant to purchase 55 sets of ice skates that we can have the community use for this event as well as start developing a rental program for that type of stuff that the community can use while we have the ice rink up. The ice rink is ready to use.”

Elbert outlines some of the other events with Saturday’s S’Mores and Blazing Pines…

“We’ll also be having food trucks, s’mores, the bonfire, burning of those Christmas trees will be at 6:00 at West Leech Park. The Fire Department will be on hand, so thank you, Chief, for that. And then the Love Where You Live group who we’re partnering with, they’d like to accept some donations for the Fire Department for this event, too, because they give us a big hand on maintaining that bonfire and making sure that it’s safe, too, so.”

Spencer residents may bring their natural Christmas trees and greenery to the designated area at West Leech Park in advance of Saturday’s Blazing Pines. All lights, ornaments and other items need to be removed.
