SL School Bd. Begins Looking At Superintendent Options

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Meeting in special session Friday, the Spirit Lake school board voted five-to-nothing to accept, with regret, the resignation of Superintendent Tim Grieves.

While his resignation is effective July 1st, Grieves said he’ll still be able to work several weeks with Spirit Lake on a transitional basis. The board directed attorney Lonnie Saunders to draw up a contractual agreement with Grieves’ new employer, the Northwest Area Education Agency, to allow for the transitional agreement.

When it comes to replacing Grieves, School Board President Beth Will outlined several possible options, including hiring a professional firm to conduct a search; and the possibility of sitting down with the Okoboji School Board to talk about the possibility of a shared position. Will said she’s already had some contact from Okoboji about possible talks.

The board took no action Friday. They scheduled another special meeting for Noon this coming Wednesday, June 27th, to review a slate of possible candidates for interim Superintendent and to review a list of search firms, as well as to once again review other possible options. That meeting will be conducted in closed session.
