SL Firefighters Called To Grassfire Near Osceola Rural Water Tower

November 22, 2014

(Montgomery)– Spirit Lake firefighters were called to the scene of a grassfire this (Monday) afternoon.

Fire Chief David Kollasch says firefighters were called to the Lynn Wallace farm southwest of Montgomery shortly before 4:00 p.m.

Kollasch says the fire was contained to a grassy area under a water tower owned by Osceola Rural Water.

Kollasch says it was started by sparks from a welder who was doing some work on the tower.

The fire burned about an acre and-a-half of land.

Kollasch says it’s fortunate the worker reported the fire as quickly as he did, as it was threatening to quickly spread due to the extremely dry conditions and the wind.

Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about a half-hour to 45 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

The fire danger remains extremely high across the area due to the ongoing lack of rain.
